Boiler Performance & Efficiency

Clayton steam boilers start up in as little as five minutes from a completely cold start.

Clayton’s internal design features a single coil design, and our mechanical steam separator has no moving parts. Coupled with our 24/7 service and technical support, Clayton is dedicated to keeping your operations running smoothly.

Clayton boilers provide an average fuel to steam efficiency of 80%, with higher efficiency easily achievable using ancillary equipment and ideal feedwater practices. Clayton also provides Energy Savings Calculations to provide you with a real-world efficiency number tailored to your facility and operations, giving you an accurate efficiency rating before you commit to a purchase.

Clayton’s unique design allows for rapid response to changing load demands and are ideal for facilities where steam loads tend to fluctuate. By controlling our water flow and matching it to the firing rate of the boiler, Clayton’s products can ramp up and cycle down quickly to match the needs of your facility.

Clayton provides steam quality in excess of 99%, with less than 1% moisture content.

Clayton boilers were originally designed to operate in the state of California, and our emissions reflect these requirements. We offer several Low NOx options to further lower emissions ratings to meet even the strictest emission requirements.

Additionally, Clayton’s latest product, the V-Series Electric Boiler, is our first zero emissions product.

Boiler Specifications & Options

Clayton offers steam boilers from as small as 15 boiler horsepower to over 1200, with customized solutions available upon request.

Clayton’s most common fuels are natural gas, oil, propane, and electricity. Clayton also offers custom solutions to accommodate alternative fuel sources, including biofuels and a range of waste heat boilers.

Clayton boilers are typically one-third the size of a traditional firetube boiler. This can allow you to install multiple boilers in the space that was previously occupied by a single boiler, allowing for more flexibility and redundancy in your facility.
Our vertical coil design allows us to build up, rather than out, saving even more floor space.

We do! We’re pleased to now offer the Clayton V-Series Electric steam generator, our first steam boiler powered entirely by electricity.

Steam generators differentiate themselves from traditional steam boilers in their coil type design. A steam generator typically uses an internal coil design to produce steam much faster, while also being physically smaller than a traditional firetube design. The term is typically used in the industry to differentiate the two styles.
However, a steam generator and a steam boiler do share something in common, and that’s the ability to generate steam for a wide variety of industrial applications.

Clayton brings a patented design to the table that sets us apart from our competitors.
It starts with our single coil design, through which water flows through in forced circulation. We time this to sync up with our boiler’s firing rate, which allows us to generate steam efficiently regardless of demand, as well as respond quickly should that demand change. From there, steam enters our mechanical steam separator, where steam rises from the top, ready for use.
This design allows us to achieve several notable results, including high levels of efficiency, an explosion-proof design, and a compact footprint that takes up less space than our competitors.

The Clayton design offers many benefits, but we’ll highlight a few:

  • Low water volume removes the chance of an explosion completely.
  • Faster startup times and quicker response to changing demands, replacing the practice of hot standby and cycling during load changes.
  • Compact design takes up less than a third of the space of a traditional firetube.
  • Higher efficiency, which lowers fuel consumption and saves money.

As far as official line of products goes, the E-Series 1200 is our largest boiler, coming in at 1200 Boiler Horsepower. Larger sizes are available upon request.

Safety & Compliance

Clayton’s design is the safest on the market, providing peace of mind for your facility and your employees. Our low water volume, coil tube design, and other safety devices completely eliminates the possibility of steam explosions and other associated safety risks.

No, they can’t. With Clayton’s low water volume, coil type design, and numerous safety features, we’ve completely eliminated any chance of a steam explosion. In the entire history of our company Clayton’s boilers have never experienced a steam explosion.

While the final decision will come down to your local regulations, in many jurisdictions Clayton boilers can be managed by your existing staff, without the need for a full-time boiler operator.
